This year marks the Lady Tigers second NCAA Tournament appearance. The team entered the ASC tournament as the 3-seed, making them underdogs against bot Hardin-Simmons University and tournament host University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. ETBU pulled both upsets with Bailey Smith winning tournament MVP and Fernanda Ruiz Burkart, Jayde Childress, and Moniqui Ybarra making the All-Tournament team. The will play Edgewood University in the first round at Pmona-Pitzer College on May, 9. Edgewood won the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference for the sixth time overall, finishing the year with a 17-9 record. The Tigers are not looking ahead, but Coach Drew Lambert feels good about their position. “We feel good about this draw in California. We will have to work hard, keep going, and get after it. We are excited to be heading west,” said head coach Drew Lambert
The ETBU men will make their first ever Division III National Tournament appearance May 9 against top seed Clarmont-Mudd-Scripps University (CMS), the tournament host. CMS lost their first two matches of the season before starting a 28-match win streak. Included in that streak is their win in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) tournament, sweeping both tournament opponents to win. Coach Lambert understands the challenge ahead of his team, saying, “Claremont is a different beast as they were the indoor national champions this year, but at the end of the day, tennis is tennis, and we are going to accept the challenge.”
The ETBU men seek their first NCAA tournament win while the women are seeking their second. Both teams will have their chance May 9.
