Convicted Shreveport felon arrested again for gun related crime

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A Shreveport man is under arrest for allegedly firing a gun during a domestic dispute and then fleeing in a U-Haul truck.

Police say it happened just after 2:00 a.m. on May 6 along East 71st Street. They say the dispute concerned a four-year-old child.

The female victim told officers that the child’s father, Jonathan Monroe, was the person who pulled the trigger.

Monroe then contacted police himself and claimed he was nearby but denied knowing anything about the U-Haul truck. Police located him quickly, and he was detained.

Police say the vehicle was found a short time late,r and inside were clothes belonging to Monroe as well as a firearm. They say the weapon appeared to have been recently fired, as it was missing ammunition. Monroe eventually confessed to the incident.

According to SPD, Monroe is a convicted felon who previously pled guilty to domestic abuse battery with serious bodily injury in 2021. The victim in this case has an active protective order against him.

He’s being charged with violation of a protective order, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal use of a weapon.
