Ella James, 62, died after being shot multiple times at her home on Palmyra Street in July 2021.
Wade called attention to the case on Wednesday as part of his “Stand With Me” initiative, which brings attention to unsolved homicide cases in Jackson.
“We have got to bring justice to this family. This young lady I met with last week is suffering. Her siblings are suffering. Suffering. Her family is suffering, and we mourn with her,” he said.
Wade said his officers have been thoroughly investigating the case, and the plan to continue their hard work to get justice for James’ family.
“Throughout the investigation, a person of interest was established. We do not have enough at this time to charge that individual with her murder. But we will continue to work hard to evaluate evidence to try to locate witnesses,” he said.
Lashuan James, the daughter of Ella James, said her mother cared deeply for her community.
“I know that we are in a different era of time to where the village don’t want to say anything. But she was a village. She was there. She loved people. She wasn’t just our family, my brothers and I. She wasn’t just our family. She was your family, too,” she said.
