Police say they were dispatched to the 5000 block of University Parkway (Whataburger) for reported shots fired. When they arrived, several witnesses told them that a group of individuals had arrived at the restaurant and an altercation had occurred.
During the incident, the suspect, identified as Zachary Shuler, 18, allegedly retrieved a firearm and fired into the parking lot, injuring two victims, police say.
During a traffic stop on I-49, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies located a vehicle on I-49 and found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were brought to Shreveport for treatment of those injuries.
Police secured a warrant for Zachary Shuler’s arrest for five counts of attempted second-degree murder. NPD asks anyone with information that could lead them to locate Shuler should contact the Natchitoches Police Department at 318-352-8101 or Detective Davanta Stevenson at 318-357-3817. NPD urges residents not to engage Shuler directly, as he should be considered armed and dangerous.
While on scene, investigators and officers canvassed the area for bullet casings and evidence connected to the shooting. All collected evidence will be sent to the crime lab for further analysis.
