Santa Rosa officers pulled over a car for a lighting equipment violation near Fourth and Leland streets around 12:51 a.m. According to Santa Rosa PD, officers smelled marijuana and saw open containers of marijuana “in plain view,” which resulted in probable cause for police to search the vehicle. The occupants were under the age of 21, so they were not permitted to possess marijuana, said police.
Both subjects were wearing satchels across their chests. According to police, one of the suspects was carrying a loaded .40 caliber Springfield XD-40 semi-automatic handgun in the satchel. The semi-automatic gun was found to have been stolen out of Livermore in 2013.
The other suspect was carrying a loaded, unregistered and unserialized 9mm P80 privately made firearm in his satchel, authorities said.
The duo was arrested and taken to the Sonoma County Jail.
The driver was arrested and booked for possession on suspicion of a concealed firearm in a vehicle, possession of a concealed firearm on person and possession of a stolen firearm. The passenger’s charges were in suspicion of possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle, possession of a concealed firearm on a person and possession of an unregistered firearm.
