Tamir Bell, the 13th ward’s alderman-elect, opened his new office on Saturday. The office is located in the Rockford Boys and Girls Club on Kilburn Avenue.
Bell said he wanted to create a space where residents can engage with city services, share ideas and collaborate on building a stronger community.
The event gave Bell hope for the next years in his term. He said opening the office was a major step toward representing the people who live in his ward.
“Certainly wanted to open the office, and that’s what we’re here today doing, opening an office to be accessible,” said Bell. “That’s what I ran on. I will be an alderman who is accessible to the residents of the 13th ward. We planted our flag today, and we’re showing folks where we’re at.”
Bell and two others will officially be sworn in at a Rockford City Council Meeting on Monday.
