DUI driver almost crashes with several cars on Hwy 99

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man nearly crashed into a big rig and several other vehicles after driving down Highway 99 while allegedly being nearly three times over the legal limit, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers say Thursday, around 6:15 pm, several drivers reported a black Jeep Grand Cherokee driving recklessly and unsafe on southbound Highway 99. 

According to CHP, the man was driving at high speeds, all over the roadway, and almost crashed with several vehicles, including a big rig that the driver attempted to pass on the right shoulder.

CHP located the Jeep on eastbound Avenue 12 at the Highway 99 overcrossing and conducted a DUI evaluation. Officers say the 35-year-old man from Merced was nearly three times over the legal limit.
