WESTWEGO, La. (WGNO) — A man has been arrested following a fatal shooting that happened in Westwego on Wednesday, April 30.
According to the Westwego Police Department, officers responded to a shooting under the covered basketball court at Fred Dorsey Playground, finding 26-year-old Zashaun Espinoza suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on scene.
Through investigation, 22-year-old Byron Spottsville was identified as a suspect in the case. He was reportedly found later at the scene of the crime wearing only a towel. He was then arrested and questioned.
Detectives say Spottsville confessed to the shooting and showed investigators where the firearm and his discarded clothing were found. Spottsville also reportedly stated that he believed the victim may have been armed.
Spottsville is charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information in this case is asked to contact the Westwego Police Department.
