Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Orchard Park Avenue at 10 a.m. this morning. Officials received multiple calls of smoke coming from the two-story dwelling. Multiple fire trucks were dispatched to the scene.
Officials said when they arrived, flames were coming from the roof of the home. Emergency crews entered the dwelling and brought the fire under control within 15 minutes.
Officials said the owner of the dwelling was not home when the fire was reported. Construction workers building a home two houses down said they witnessed the lightning strike that started the fire.
The home under construction also sustained damage to the structure from the impact of the strike. Fortunately, no one was injured.
