John Curtis loses to Catholic High 4-0 in game one of Division I Select Quarterfinals

BATON ROUGE (WGNO) – No. 8 John Curtis traveled to Baton Rouge Thursday afternoon to face No. 1 Catholic High, beginning a three-game series in the Division I Select Quarterfinals.

The third-round showdown is a rematch of last year’s state championship. The Bears beat the Patriots 5-0 in the 2024 title game.

John Curtis entered Grizzly Field on an eight-game heater, including back-to-back wins over Archbishop Rummel in the regional round, but the Patriots found themselves on the wrong side of a pitching clinic in game one.

The second inning was the only frame either team scored. After loading the bases, Orlando Henriquez singled through the right side and drove in Davis Emonet for the game’s first run, and with bases still juiced, Noah Lewis launched a pitch to the wall in left field for a bases clearing double.

Two plays forced the Patriots into a 4-0 deficit, and Catholic’s junior arm would not allow John Curtis to rally.

Lucas Lawrence threw a complete game shoutout: allowing only four hits and racking up eight strikeouts, including the final out to secure the Bears’ win.

Catholic High beat John Curtis 4-0.

Game two is currently scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday.
