Sponsorship opportunities coming to South City Park

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — With work well underway at Donald Gardner stadium and the South City Park in Opelousas, there is also work being done to get businesses involved in the park through sponsorships.

Lena Charles with the Opelousas Downtown Development District says as the park has come together, and businesses will have the chance to have their names embedded in the park with their sponsorships, funding additions.

“We’re looking at some levels that are corporate that can afford the big-ticket items,” said Charles. “And then we’re looking at a medium range. Then we’re looking at a lower level. I can’t put that in my budget to pay for maybe an entrance, but I know that these corporations can, and they would want their branding to be part of the park project.”

But it doesn’t just stop at additions. Sponsorships will also help fund maintenance and crew members to help get events ready to take place in the park.

“The funding is in place. We based our sponsorship, the naming rights, on the funds that were already allocated,” explained Charles. “With these naming rights, we intend to offset those funds, so we have the ability to use them for the additional phases.”

While the plan for sponsorships is still in the early stages, Charles says she’s excited for the opportunity to make the park even greater than anticipated. Additional meetings regarding the format of the sponsorships are planned to take place and move forward this week.
