Vannika Simon, 37, of Baton Rouge, was charged with cruelty to juveniles.
An officer with the Baton Rouge Police Department responded to a hospital on Wednesday, April 23.
Upon arriving at the hospital, the officer spoke with the girl.
The teenager said her mother “got angry with her and hit her with a small metal bat multiple times,” according to the affidavit.
The 13-year-old said she ran away to her aunt’s home, where she hid in the bathroom. She said her mother followed her and hit her multiple times with a belt.
The teen fell. Her mother then pulled her hair and stepped on her ankles, according to the affidavit.
The officer found bruising, red marks, a bloodied cut, and swelling on the body of the 13-year-old girl.
Simon was arrested a little after 8:45 p.m. Friday in the 9000 block of Airline Highway.
The Baton Rouge woman was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the same day as her arrest.
