Jeremy Morton, 30, is accused of assault and battery on two elderly people at Won Kee Supermarket in Oakland’s Chinatown district. According to the DA, a deadly weapon was used in the attack.
“Our office stands with the victims of this alleged assault, and the charges that Mr. Morton faces reflect the seriousness of his actions and the need to protect the most vulnerable members of our society,” Jones Dickson said.
Morton has been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. Per the district attorney, Morton was previously convicted of carjacking, attempted robbery and false imprisonment.
If convicted, Morton could face up to 19 years in prison, according to prosecutors.
Morton’s arraignment is scheduled for Monday.
