Coast Guard officials said the mixture was released in a marsh environment near a Garden Island Bay production facility’s well on Saturday, and an overflight “confirmed the presence of crude oil.”
A Unified Command among the organizations was formed and is working with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Forefront Emergency Management and other agencies on response efforts.
The operator’s oil spill response plan has reportedly been activated.
Coast Guard officials said no injuries or wildlife impacts have been reported.
The cause of the release remains under investigation.
Any observation of impacted wildlife can contact the Wildlife Hotline at 832-514-9663, and mariners that observe oil can contact the Coast Guard Sector New Orleans Command Center at 504-365-2200.
