(KRON) — The Solano County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Services said officers rescued an emaciated, white German Shepherd who was lying in a pile of dumped trash on the side of a road.

Animal Control Services stated the dog was found on April 15 in the 2000 block of Lopes Road in Benicia. When officers initially approached, the “poor dog was terrified and running along the highway.”

However, officers were able to successfully capture the “starving” dog the following day with the help of treats.

The German Shepherd was then taken to the Solano County Animal Shelter, where he was named “Sonny.”

Those interested in rescuing “Sonny” are encouraged to call the shelter at (707) 784-1356.
