By rssfeeds-admin FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — President Donald Trump has approved Gov. Andy Beshear’s request for a major disaster declaration for Kentucky after April’s floods.
Individual Assistance has been approved for Anderson, Butler, Carroll, Christian, Clark, Franklin, Hardin, Hopkins, Jessamine, McCracken, Mercer, Owen, and Woodford counties.
“This declaration is crucial because so many Kentucky families have been significantly affected by this event, and the greatest impact has been felt by our families whose homes were flooded,” Beshear said. “We are again thankful to President Trump and his administration for approving this critical funding. Just like before, we will get through this—together. And I promise that we will be there for our people as long as it takes.
Beshear said he will request that additional counties be added to the declaration through an amendment once ongoing assessments are complete.
Congressman James Comer said the relief will help families who lost homes receive temporary shelters, as well as essentials like food and water.
The announcement comes as many parts of the state are still cleaning up from this month’s devastating and deadly flooding.
This was the second request Beshear has had to send to the president so far this year.
