Woman injured after argument leads to shooting on Far South Side

CHICAGO (WGN) — A woman was seriously injured on Thursday afternoon after an argument led to a shooting on the Far South Side.

Chicago police said it all unfolded just before 1:30 p.m. in the 13000 block of South Champlain Avenue in Riverdale.

According to police, the victim, a 25-year-old woman, got into an argument with a male offender in the area, but things escalated when the offender allegedly pulled out a gun and opened fire in the woman’s direction.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to her torso and was taken to the hospital where she was listed in serious condition.

Following the shooting the individual responsible fled the scene on foot.

Police indicated that the victim knew the person responsible, though their relationship is unclear and no arrests have been made.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and an investigation is now underway.
