One man dead, two injured after crash north of Pocatello

UPDATE

Idaho State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash that occurred on Thursday, April 24, at 1:55 p.m., on southbound Interstate 15 at milepost 74.5, north of Pocatello.

A 2000 Subaru Legacy, driven by a 48-year-old male from Inkom, was driving southbound on I-15 when traffic slowed, according to a news release from ISP. The Subaru struck the back of a 2019 Audi A6, driven by a 60-year-old male from Idaho Falls, which was also occupied by a 59-year-old female passenger from Idaho Falls.

The driver of the Subaru was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the crash.

The occupants of the Audi were wearing seatbelts and were transported to a nearby hospital.

The southbound lanes of I-15 were blocked for approximately three hours to allow emergency responders to assist those involved. Idaho State Police was assisted by Chubbuck Police Department, Fort Hall Police Department, Fort Hall Fire Department and the Pocatello Fire Department.

FORT HALL — At least two crashes are blocking highway traffic between Fort Hall and Pocatello Thursday afternoon.

According to a post on X by the Idaho State Police, troopers are currently investigating a crash on southbound I-15 at milepost 74.5, north of Pocatello.

The southbound lanes of travel are blocked.

Information from Idaho 511 states that there are multiple crashes blocking that section of the interstate.

The first crash reportedly occurred around 2:39 p.m. Witnesses say the second crash appears to have happened shortly after the first one. One of the crashes appears to have involved a construction semi-truck. It’s unclear if anyone has been injured.

Officials ask that if you are traveling nearby, you prepare to stop, drive with extreme caution, and follow a detour.
