Xavier Vincent, 19, is charged with aggravated cruelty to a juvenile and Jessica Chavez, 34, is charged with charged with improper supervision and not addressing abuse and neglect of a child by reporting.
Crowley Police responded Monday evening to a report from a local hospital, where a 2-year-old child was being treated for multiple injuries, including two broken arms and severe bruising.
Investigators said Chaves, the mother of two, had neglected to properly supervise her child or to report obvious child abuse committed against the 2-year-old by Vincent, a nephew who had been permitted to watch the child.
Investigators discovered that the child had incurred wounds and bruises on multiple occasions when being watched by Vincent, officials said.
The two were booked into the Acadia Parish jail on Tuesday. Bond details were not released.
