How much rain did we get? Floodwaters submerge cars in Lafayette, Broussard, Youngsville

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Significant rainfall caused widespread flooding throughout Lafayette Parish Thursday morning.

Slow-moving storms produced five to eight inches of rain in downtown Lafayette, Broussard, and Youngsville before shifting southward to New Iberia, Erath and Abbeville.

Along the Evangeline Thruway, over a dozen vehicles stalled out in the floodwaters, while in Broussard and Youngsville, residents reported water entering some homes due to cars traveling down flooded roadways.

By 10 a.m., most of the storms moved east towards Baton Rouge, causing more flooding in and around the Capital City.

  • Broussard: 6″+
  • Youngsville: 6″+
  • Cade Farm (near New Iberia): 5.35″
  • Breaux Bridge: 3.69″
  • New Iberia: 5.80″
  • Carencro: 5.76″
