Suspected DUI driver hits Hazleton police car at crash scene; police

HAZLETON – A driver was taken into custody after police say they struck a cruiser blocking traffic at a separate crash Friday.

Hazleton Police officers responded to a crash at 15th and Lincoln in the city around 8:51pm Friday for a reported motor vehicle accident.

A police car was used to block the eastbound lane of 15th street to protect first responders at the scene.

A driver failed to stop and struck the cruiser, police said. The driver was not injured but showed several signs of impairment, police said.

They were arrested under suspicion of DUI and taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton for blood draws.

Charges are pending.
