Police: Teen driver runs stop sign, knocks cruiser into parked cars

HAZLETON – A Hazleton police car was struck by a teen driver they say ran a stop sign earlier this month, sending the cruiser into two parked cars.

According to Hazleton Police, officers were responding to a fight-in-progress call around 1:15am on July 13.

At 2nd and Locust Streets, a Jeep Grand Cherokee ran the stop sign on 2nd Street and struck the police car. The impact sent the cruiser into two unattended vehicles on Locust Street.

The driver of the Jeep, police said, was a teen with a learner’s permit.

Officers said the cruiser was disabled and the police officer was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton for treatment and released.

The teen was cited for the stop sign violation and license restriction violations.
