LCU baseball triumphs over McNeese after 17 seasons

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — For the first time in 17 seasons, the Louisiana Christian University baseball team defeated a Division 1 opponent.

LCU traveled to Joe Miller Ballpark in Lake Charles to face the McNeese State Cowboys. McNeese State has been difficult to beat at home, boasting a 28-8 record (21-3 home record) heading into their showdown with LCU. The Cowboys left runners stranded with the bases loaded in 3 different innings, ultimately leaving 13 runners on base. McNeese has a few days to regroup before going on the road for a series against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, another top Southland Conference team, starting on Friday.

The 4-3 LCU win was their first over a Division 1 opponent since 2008, an 8-3 win over Nicholls State. The win takes them to a 24-23 record, leaving them 7 in the Red River Athletic Conference. Nine LCU pitchers threw a full inning and collectively gave up two earned runs. LCU is now preparing for back-to-back games against the 1-26 Texas College on Thursday and Friday.
