The unofficial results showed Horhn defeated incumbent Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba on Tuesday, April 22. Lumumba was seeking a third term as mayor.
Horhn will advance to the Municipal General Election on June 3, 2025.
Lumumba conceded the race after falling short in the results. He was joined by his emotional daughters and wife. The mayor thanked his supporters, while noting his administration’s efforts to fight for better infrastructure and public safety.
Lumumba said he wants the next mayor of Jackson to protect the city’s assets, and his willing to work with them to do so.
The mayor also addressed the Jackson bribery scandal.
“And I want to be clear. I want to be clear and make it clear that I am not guilty of any crime. I’m not guilty of bribery. I’m not guilty of a quid pro quo. And I want to be clear in that. It has been an honor. It has been the professional privilege of my life to serve. I want you to know what we have accomplished. We’ve not only, you know, been able to make serious investments into our infrastructure,” said Lumumba.
