The winningest college baseball coach in Louisiana, Delgado’s Joe Scheuermann, is surrounded by family at every home game.
“We legitimately like each other,” says Scheuermann’s daughter, Nataly, “and we legitimately love being at the ballpark.”
At Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, Delgado Baseball’s home field, the family legacy began in 1972, with Delgado’s very first Head Baseball Coach, “Rags” Scheuermann– Joe Scheuermann’s father.
The team was so successful, that Rags Scheuermann was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in the same year that he retired, 1990. That’s when Rags’ son, Joe, became the coach, and started racking up more wins.
In his 24th season as coach, Scheuermann has won more than 1200 games and taken the team to the Junior College World Championships three times. That record will be celebrated later this year, when he, too, is inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
It’s a legacy that Coach Joe says has “come full circle” for the family, and you can meet them, in our story above.
