Suspect in Bull Shoals fatal shooting found dead of apparent suicide in Baxter County

A man suspected in a fatal shooting at a Bull Shoals residence was found deceased in Baxter County. The body of 49-year-old Brooks Dean Due of Briarcliff was located Monday afternoon on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property. He is believed to have committed suicide.





Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says his office was notified of the search for Due Monday morning.

According to Sheriff Montgomery, deputies began searching for Due at and around his residence. The Arkansas State Police deployed one of their helicopters, and a vehicle matching the description of Due’s was found on Shoal Creek Trail near Norfork Lake just before 2:30. The canine tracking team from the Arkansas Department of Corrections’ North Central Unit in Calico Rock joined the search and located Due’s deceased body nearly an hour later approximately 70 to 75 yards off the road from Shoal Creek Trail. The Baxter County Coroner’s Office took possession of the body.

Due was the suspect in the shooting that occurred Monday morning in Bull Shoals. Marion County Sheriff Gregg Alexander says the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. The shooting was being investigated by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas State Police and the Bull Shoals Police Department.
