Man drowns in Tule River in Tulare County

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man drowned in the Tule River, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies say they were called to the Tule River above Upper Coffee Camp just after 2 p.m. on Monday. Deputies responded to an area known as “The Stairs.”

Upon arrival, the sheriff’s office said responding deputies learned a man in his 30s was missing in the river after going over a small waterfall or slide.

Deputies, along with Tulare County Fire and medical personnel, initiated a search to find the man. After about an hour, deputies reported the man was found in a nearby swimming hole and was recovered by the sheriff’s office’s Swiftwater and Dive Team, as well as the Tulare County Fire Swiftwater personnel.

However, although life-saving measures were performed on the patient and he was transported to the Sierra View District Hospital, the sheriff’s office reports the man was pronounced deceased.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
