According to a news release from the Galveston Volunteer Fire Department, crews were dispatched to a report of a house fire in the area of U.S. 31 and State Road 18 at around 5:43 a.m. on Monday.
Before they arrived, they were informed that there were potentially multiple individuals entrapped in the home. When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy fire coming from the back of the home.
During a search of the home, they located one person. The release said that the person was later pronounced dead.
“Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire,” the release said. “Anyone with information regarding this incident or any other fires is urged to contact the Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office (at) (800) 669-7362.”
