CRESSONA – A Frackville man is dead after police say he fled a traffic stop and caused a multi-car crash near here Saturday afternoon.
Matthew Williams, 43, of Frackville, was identified as the driver killed in the crash around 3pm on Route 61 near the Cressona Mall entrance in North Manheim Township.
According to State Police at Schuylkill Haven, troopers stopped a 2017 Kia Rio for a traffic violation.
The Kia, driven by Williams, fled the stop and drove for a quarter mile to the Cressona Mall entrance where he rear-ended an SUV in the right turn lane, causing a multi-car crash.
Williams was pronounced dead at the scene and several others involved were taken to area hospitals.
Assisting State Police were units from Schuylkill Haven Police, Orwigsburg Police, Schuylkill Haven Fire, Pottsville Fire Police, Schuylkill EMS, and the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office.
