Man accused of sending flaming car, aunt’s body over Ky. mountainside

LYNCH, Ky. (FOX 56) — A “suspicious” vehicle fully engulfed in flames was found over a Kentucky mountainside, ending with Kentucky State Police charging a Virginia man.

On Sunday, April 20, KSP was called to KY Highway 160 in Harlan County, where a Toyota was found off the roadway and down the mountain with someone still trapped inside.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

The woman inside, later identified as Sandra Moore, 44, of Virginia, was declared dead at the scene by the Harlan County Coroner.

After further investigation, KSP said earlier that morning she was involved in a fight with her nephew, David Stoneburner, 29, at their home in Virginia. Troopers didn’t specify how Moore died but did confirm the fight ultimately led to her death.

KSP said that after the dispute, the evidence suggested that Stoneburner placed Moore’s body in her vehicle and drove to Kentucky, where he allegedly set the vehicle on fire and sent it crashing over the mountain embankment.

Troopers said Stoneburner was arrested and taken to the Harlan County Detention Center. He was charged with:

  • Abuse of a corpse
  • FIrst-degree arson

KSP said that additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
