Gun possession conviction for felon linked to 2022 murder in Loves Park

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A man accused of killing a man at a Loves Park bar in 2022 has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Charles Jackson, 26, pleaded guilty to the charge earlier this year.

In September 2022, Jackson, 26, and Deontez Williams, 34, were announced as suspects in the May murder of Detrayvian Jones at Neighbors Bar and Grill, at 7745 Forest Hills Road.

Jones was found shot in the parking lot of the bar shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14th.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Jackson was in possession of a modified handgun when he ran from police.

As a previously convicted felon, Jackson was prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.

He was sentenced in the Northern District of Illinois before Judge Iain Johnson on Friday.

The murder case against him is still ongoing. He is due back in Winnebago County Court on May 9th, 2025.

Williams is due back in court on May 14th.
