ST. GABRIEL, La. (
Louisiana First) — History was made in Iberville Parish on Saturday as early voting was held in the City of St. Gabriel for the very first time.
Parish President Chris Daigle called it a major milestone for equity and access across the parish.
“Today is a historic day in Iberville Parish,” Daigle said. “You want the residents to have that opportunity—every fundamental right and opportunity to vote.”
For many in St. Gabriel, the addition of an early voting site marks a long-awaited improvement, especially for voters in the southeastern part of the parish who previously had to travel across the Mississippi River to cast their ballots.
“It’s an opportunity for voters to come out locally, where they don’t have to travel across the Mississippi River bridge,” Daigle said.
The new early voting location at the St. Gabriel Community Center brings more convenient access to residents who may have faced transportation or scheduling challenges in the past.
“It’s to make sure that the rural parts of Iberville Parish, who didn’t have early voting, could have more opportunities,” Daigle said.
Early voting in Louisiana continues through April 26. Voters can check with their parish registrar’s office for times and locations.
And this historic expansion of access isn’t over—Daigle said April 25 and April 26, early voting will be available for the first time in North Iberville, with polling locations in Grosse Tete, Rosedale and Maringouin.
