NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A New Orleans man is on the run after allegedly fleeing from criminal court Thursday morning.
Matthew Dennis with the Assured Supervision Accountability Program says Terrance Green was due in court on multiple gun charges.
Dennis claims Green fled when he was told he would be reprimanded due to non-compliance with the program.
“Headed straight to the Walmart on Tchoupitoulas in the sixth district, where he did remove the ankle monitor and appears to have traveled across the Crescent City in action, where he threw the device over the bridge,” said Dennis.
Green is labeled armed and dangerous, and law enforcement officers are working to locate him. Although Green is from the area, Dennis believes he will soon be captured.
“I predict he’ll be captured quickly because he is from here, and it’s going to be very difficult for him to avoid capture. This gentleman likely has a risk factor that’s off the charts now because he ran out of court. So it’s likely that he won’t be re-enrolled into an ankle monitor program,” said Dennis.
However, Dennis says catching those who flee from the courthouse can be problematic, due to ankle monitor agents being unable to bring their phones into court.
“When this gentleman ran out of the courthouse, my enforcement agent didn’t have any access to call for help. We lost 10 minutes because we couldn’t carry our eyeballs with us and we missed him by six minutes at the Walmart,” said Dennis.
According to Dennis, phones had been allowed up until six months ago. He now hopes for the rule to change back.
“If you take our cell phone away, we no longer have instant contact with that ankle monitor, not only that, we have these people on monitor, and our cell phones are our direct link when we’re not by our computers.”
In a statement, The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office says Green was not in their custody.
