La Jonction Earth Day Fair creates awareness with inaugural event

ARNAUDVILLE, La. (KLFY) — A local nonprofit is looking to celebrate Earth Day this weekend.

The La Jonction Earth Day Fair is being put on by Levity, a non-profit think tank that seeks to “come together to tackle pressing environmental and social issues.”

The Earth Day Fair is Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Les Deux Bayous STEAM Park, 1509 Cortableau Highway in Arnaudville.

Charles Chassion, the creative director of Levity, said this event offers a chance for residents to enjoy the Earth in a family-friendly atmosphere, with vendors and other Earth-friendly exhibits.

“We have a drum circle around noon, so we encourage people to bring drums or bring instruments to play with,” Chassion said. “There’s going to be live painting. There’s a pretty cool kids area that’s going to be put on by Canopy Spirits.”

The fair is being hosted on the campus of two nonprofits, Levity and its partner organization, Les Deux Bayou STEAM Park, with support from NUNU Arts and Culture Collective, the UL Building Institute and Canopy Spirits.

Organizers hope this will help create a influential narrative around Earth Day, which is Tuesday, April 22.

“It’s mostly about sustainability, regenerative systems, how can we figure out ways to take from the earth and also put back into the Earth?” Chassion said. “That’s kind of the whole purpose of the two nonprofits that share the space. It’s also a fundraiser to get the campus going, like we have kind of like a 15-year plan to get the campus built.”

Charles emphasizes this is an all inclusive event, people of all ages are welcome. Just bring your picnic blanket, your dancing shoes and kindness.
