According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, crews responded to a report of a car driving into flood waters near the intersection of Griffith Station Road and Highway 279 near Stanley on Wednesday afternoon.
We’re told there were two people inside the car, which was found completely submerged in water off of the roadway.
Authorities say one of the occupants was found unconscious and floating in the water nearby. They say crews immediately began CPR and the man was airlifted to an Evansville hospital.
The passenger says the car was driving through water and it began to float. They say the car was swept off the roadway and went into deeper water.
We’re told the driver got out of the vehicle, but was also swept away by the water. The passenger says they stayed inside because their side of the vehicle had less water rushing in.
Authorities are urging drivers to not attempt to drive through flood water as there are still areas that are still experiencing severe flooding.
