According to Chicago police, the shooting unfolded inside of a Red Line train as it approached the Garfield stop in the 200 block of West Garfield Boulevard in Fuller Park.,
Officers said the victim, a 13-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to his buttocks and was taken to the hospital in serious condition. He was the only person injured in the incident.
Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and no arrests have been made.
An investigation into the shooting is currently underway.
The incident caused some disruptions for Red Line riders on Wednesday night.
According to the CTA, Red Line trains are currently bypassing the Garfield stop between 47th and 63rd in Fuller Park due to police activity.
The CTA has not said how long the disruptions are expected to last.
