According to Chicago police, the shooting unfolded inside of a train as it approached the Garfield stop in the 200 block of West Garfield Boulevard in Fuller Park around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Officers said the boy suffered a gunshot wound to his buttocks and was taken to the hospital in serious condition. He was the only person injured in the incident.
Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and no arrests have been made.
The incident also caused some disruptions for Red Line riders on Wednesday night.
An investigation into the shooting is underway.
