Special police unit to crack down on road rage, aggressive drivers

The Doral Police Department has launched an Aggressive Driving Unit in a focused drive to make the city’s streets safer.

The unit (ADU) is a specialized law enforcement team dedicated to identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting drivers who exhibit aggressive and reckless behavior within city limits.

“Our commitment to public safety is unwavering, and the ADU reflects our zero-tolerance approach to reckless behavior on our roads,” said Mayor Christi Fraga. “This unit will be instrumental in tackling aggressive driving, ensuring safer streets, and fostering a more enjoyable driving experience for all in our community.”

The new unit will actively target a range of traffic violations, including speeding and reckless driving, tailgating, unsafe lane changes, running red lights, and road rage. The unit will also focus on enforcing regulations for commercial vehicles, ensuring compliance with disabled parking restrictions, and maintaining safety in school zones.

The ADU’s multifaceted approach will include high-visibility patrols in areas with a high incidence of aggressive driving and traffic violations; using data analysis to target specific areas and times for increased enforcement; working closely with other law enforcement agencies and the community to address traffic safety concerns; and create public awareness campaigns to educate the public about the dangers of aggressive driving and to promote safe driving.

“The creation of this unit further demonstrates our commitment to proactive traffic enforcement,” said Edwin Lopez, Doral’s police chief. “Our mission is to promote road safety, reduce the number of crashes caused by aggressive driving, and foster a culture of responsible and respectful driving and parking in our city.”
