LACOMBE, La. (WGNO) — A Ponchatoula man was indicted on Wednesday, April 16, following an investigation into a fatal shooting that happened in Lacombe on Dec. 28, 2024.
According to the office of District Attorney Collin Sims, 20-year-old Osmer Noel Villalta-Lopez allegedly killed 24-year-old Yelson Hernan Banegas-Garcia, and now faces charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
Officials with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office say Banegas-Garciaz was found dead at a Lacombe boat launch on Saturday, Dec. 28.
Villalta-Lopez was later identified as a suspect in the investigation and arrested. He initially faced charges of first-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
