We all know that a ‘dull weekend’ is a foreign concept to New Orleanians, but this weekend is extra special being that it is Good Friday, Easter Sunday and let’s not forget the Crescent City Classic which draws hundreds to the starting line every year.
Thankfully, the forecast will be cooperative with all events taking place.
Wake up and smell the crab boil! Crawfish boils are the go-to activity of choice on Good Friday in Southeast Louisiana. This involves being outdoors manning the pot for a good chunk of time. If you plan on dumping them out on the table by lunch, you’ll have to start prepping about mid-morning. Temperatures will be near 75 degrees by 9 a.m. with partly cloudy skies overhead.
The sun is out fully by the afternoon and temperatures will be warming up to 81 by lunchtime. Wind will be a little pesky around 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and occasional gusts may reach 15 to 20 mph. Overall highs in the middle 80s. No chances for rain.
On your mark, get set, SWEAT! Humidity will be on the rise this weekend and warm temperatures are expected for Saturday. The 10K starts at Champions Square. By 8 a.m., runners will begin the race with a temperature of 73 degrees and cloudy skies. Winds out of the SE at 9 mph. Not too bad of a race day forecast, but humidity will be at 89%, dewpoints in the upper 60s. You will sweat!
By 10 a.m., most of the participants along with their family and friends will be gathering at City Park for the Award Ceremony, Costume Contest and the post RaceFest!
Temperatures hit 80 by 12 p.m. and the event will end at 1 p.m. under mostly cloudy skies with winds near 15 mph from the SE.
Here lies where the forecast gets tricky.
All of next week looks to hold some sort of rain chance each day. This new pattern initiates on Sunday, April 20. Rain chances for Easter are not widespread, which is good.
Sunday morning starts off warm with temps already in the mid 70s. Overcast skies will be seen across SE LA. Chances for showers and/or an isolated thunderstorm remain about 15 to 20% across all of our area. By lunch, cloudy with temps in the low 80s southerly winds around 10 to12 mph. Rain chances for lunch and into the afternoon still remain at 20%. The French Quarter Easter Parade begins at 1 p.m. – pack an umbrella just in case.
As for plans of Easter egg hunts and outdoor dinners. I wouldn’t cancel anything just yet. Most of the day looks to be dry. However, it is a good idea to have a backup dining table set up inside incase of unfortunate timing.
Thankfully there is little to no severe threat with the weather expected on Sunday. If you hear thunder, get the kids indoors, otherwise light shower activity will be manageable.
