Established in 1993, the Hall of Fame honors individuals who have made significant contributions to Louisiana’s political landscape. Weems now joins the legacy of notable inductees such as Huey Long, Jimmie Davis, Edwin Edwards, James Carville, and Steve Scalise.
Weems’ impact on Louisiana State University of Alexandria (LSUA) is both historic and transformative. He played a crucial role in the institution’s transition from a two-year junior college into a fully accredited four-year university. Working alongside the LSU Board of Supervisors, the Louisiana Board of Regents, and the Louisiana Legislature, Weems helped secure LSUA’s authority to grant bachelor’s degrees — a milestone that paved the way for the university’s current growth.
“Charlie’s vision for LSUA helped spark a political miracle that changed the trajectory of this institution,” said LSUA Chancellor Paul Coreil. “Because of his leadership, LSUA is now the fastest-growing four-year university in the state, with more than 7,000 students and a statewide reputation for excellence.”
Weems has served on the LSUA Foundation Board for more than 25 years, offering steadfast support and guidance. Melinda Anderson, LSUA Chief of Staff, praised his dedication, saying, “Charlie’s unwavering support for LSUA has made an indelible mark on this campus. He has given his time, energy, and wisdom to ensure our continued growth and success. We will always honor his legacy.”
In addition to his work in education, Weems is a decorated veteran, a respected trial attorney, and a civic leader whose career has spanned decades of service to Louisiana. His leadership and advocacy have influenced policy, strengthened communities, and expanded educational access across the region.
Weems’ induction into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame not only recognizes his past achievements but also celebrates a lifetime of service that continues to shape lives in Central Louisiana and beyond.
