Over 40 loaded guns intercepted by TSA at Louisiana airports this year

KENNER, La. (WGNO) — The Transportation Security Administration reports that, as of mid-April, a total of 46 firearms have been intercepted at Louisiana airports across Louisiana.

Forty-four of the 46 guns intercepted by officers were loaded.

Total of guns intercepted at other Louisiana airports:

• Alexandria International Airport: 1.
• Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport: 3.
• Lafayette Regional Airport: 8.
• Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport: 28.
• Monroe Regional Airport: 1.
• Shreveport Regional Airport: 3.

“We commend our dedicated officers across the state who every day carry out our mission to keep the traveling public safe,” TSA Federal Security Director for the State of Louisiana Arden Hudson said.

Hundson reminds travelers to put unloaded firearms in a locked hard-sided case in checked bags and to declare the weapon to airlines at check-in.

“Travelers are responsible for being aware of what the firearm laws are on each side of their trip or they may be cited or arrested. Firearms may not be legal to transport even in checked baggage in some jurisdictions,” Hudson said.

Nationwide, 6,678 firearms were intercepted at airport checkpoints in 2024. In Louisiana that same year, 128 firearms were brought by travelers to security checkpoints.
