Ke’iondra Butler, 19, was booked into the Pointe Coupee Parish Detention Center and charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Her bond was set at $550,000.
New Roads police officers responded to a home on Pennsylvania Street around 9:40 a.m. Monday, April 14, after a report of an unresponsive baby boy. Police said the baby was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The coroner will release a report after an autopsy.
“This is a heartbreaking case for our community. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected and remain committed to pursuing justice on behalf of the infant,” the police department said in a statement Wednesday.
Butler’s 2-year-old child has been placed in the custody of the Louisiana Department of Child & Family Services per a judicial order.
