Officials arrested Aaron Senegal, 34, of Crowley who was charged with simple robbery, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, two counts of illegal possession of stolen property, three counts of possession of firearms by convicted felon and two counts of obscenity, authorities said.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when officials were dispatched to a local convenience store regarding an attempted simple robbery. It was reported that Senegal allegedly attempted to take money from the register but the clerk of the store pushed him from behind the counter where he then stole a vehicle from the parking lot and fled the scene, officials said.
Authorities said they believed Senegal drove to Rayne and was allegedly involved in a hit and run. The investigation of this case remains ongoing by the Rayne Police Department.
The suspect then traveled to Morse, where it was said that he abandoned the stolen vehicle from Crowley and then proceeded to steal another vehicle from a nearby residence. It was then believed that Senegal allegedly entered the residence and stole the keys, authorities said.
During the the investigations, it was reported that the suspect was observed traveling to Crowley in the second stolen vehicle, authorities said.
When officials attempted to stop the vehicle, Sengeal led then them in a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit ended on Schule Road north of Crowley, where the suspect crashed the stolen vehicle into a nearby field and was taken into custody immediately, authorities said.
Once treated at a local hospital, the suspect was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail.
Officials stated Senegal’s bond has been set at $171,5000.
