Officers with the Uniform Patrol Division responded to the scene around 6:38 p.m. on April 15 following reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, they learned that the child had already been transported by private means to Baton Rouge General Mid-City.
Due to the severity of the injuries sustained, detectives were called to the scene. Police said the child was caught in the crossfire during a shooting incident on N. 26th Street.
As of Wednesday morning, the child is reported to be in stable condition.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 225-389-4869 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
