On Monday afternoon, Louisiana State Troopers were called to a crash near Greenwell Springs Road and Alphonse Forbes Road. Upon arrival, they learned the crash involved two 18-wheelers.
During the investigation, a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Chiquita Rogers, 42, of Port Allen, was headed north on Greenwell Springs Road and stopped to make a left turn. At the same time, a 2021 Freightliner tractor-trailer was also headed north before crashing into Rogers’ vehicle.
The impact from the crash sent Rogers’ vehicle into the southbound lane on Greenwell Springs Road, where it was struck by a 2020 Mack tractor-trailer.
Rogers was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, police say. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The drivers of the tractor-trailers were wearing seatbelts and were not severely injured.
Standard toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted for analysis.
