SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A Union Pacific train derailed early Monday afternoon in downtown Shreveport.

The derailment occurred near Lake Street and Clyde Fant Parkway, behind Sci-Port Discovery Center. A nearby witness called 911 at 1:14 p.m.

The Shreveport Fire Department (SFD) unit arrived six minutes after the call. Seven units responded in total. Firefighters confirmed that 11 empty cars derailed out of 101 cars on the train. No hazardous materials were released or spilled.

No injuries were reported, and there was no traffic disruption. Union Pacific is investigating the cause.
