LSUS baseball breaks NAIA records; best start to a season since 1987

HOBBS, NM (KTAL/KMSS) – On Friday, the no. 1 LSUS Pilots officially etched its name into the NAIA record books.

After almost 40 years, the NAIA record for best start to the season was broken when the Pilots defeated University of the Southwester, 7-2, in the first game of Friday’s series. LSUS improved to 38-0 to break the record.

The Pilots then added onto that in the second game of Friday’s double header with a 12-2 victory, making the new record 39-0.

The next record LSUS is staring down is the longest NAIA win streak. Point Park currently holds that record at 41 games in a row. If the Pilots were to sweep this weekend, they would be just one game away from tying that record. The next opportunity would come Tuesday as Nelson comes to town.
