According to the IRS, individuals and businesses in Kentucky have until Nov. 3, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.
The extension is reportedly due to the February disaster declaration, when Kentuckians across the state were affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, and landslides that began on Feb. 14, 2025.
If any Kentuckian receives a late filing or late payment penalty notice from the IRS, the IRS recommends calling the telephone number on the notice to abate the penalty.
According to Gov. Andy Beshear’s office, the November deadline also extends to the state level.
“Folks remember, we’re in this together, and we keep trying to find different ways to help out,” Beshear said. “Some will be big, some will be small, but we hope that they all come together and show that the people of this state love you, and that we’re trying to do our very best to help.”
In a February news release, the governor’s office pledged to mirror the IRS’s extension for state tax payments and filings.
This relief also applies to the estimated tax payments usually due on April 15, June 16, and Sept. 15, 2025.
For those who have already filed state taxes and owe, you have until Nov. 3 to pay.
