Although Wayne Hayes may not have gotten the UK championship win that he wished for this year, head coach Mark Pope sent him a nice consolation prize – his own shout-out video.
“Wayne!” Pope exclaimed joyfully to the fan. “I want to wish you the happiest 104th birthday of all time!”
The director of RobinBrooke Senior Living sent FOX 56 the video after Wayne’s love for UK basketball spread through the community’s hearts.
“Big thanks to everyone who worked on Wayne’s birthday wish,” the living center wrote on Facebook. “Coach Pope wasn’t able to come meet Wayne this week but he sent a big happy birthday!”
Wayne was able to celebrate his birthday on Friday surrounded by friends and family. Staff at the living center said it was a joy being able to celebrate him.
